Anti-Bullying Workshop

According to the latest Professional Research Consultants, Inc. (PRC) Child and Adolescent Health Survey, nearly 25% of students in the Kansas City area reported being bullied in the past year, and almost 12% had been cyberbullied.

It’s easy to look the other way when kids are being bullied, but no more! Bullying is a problem we can’t ignore, and it’s hurting our kids. That’s why Children’s Mercy and Sporting KC are teaming up to put a stop to bullying with Red Card.

Guest Speaker: Ram Chettiar, DO

Our objectives will be:

  1. Define the characteristics that make today's youth unique. (25%)

  2. Review the neuroscience of adolescent brain development. (15%)

  3. Discuss strategies for youth to recognize, manage, and prevent bullying in their communities. (50%)

  4. Time for discussion. (10%)

There will also be an aspect of #3 that will be specifically for parents.

Kyleigh's Gift Diaper Drive

Kyleigh's Gift, in collaboration with Baby Grace Place at Woods Chapel Church, will be hosting a Diaper Drive on Sunday, April 28, 2024. Children's diapers of all sizes can be dropped off in the Woods Chapel Church lobby from 8:30-11:30 AM or during the drive-thru event from 12:00-2:00 PM. All diapers donated will go directly to Baby Grace Place, a Woods Chapel Church & Woods Chapel Raytown program for members of the community who are facing financial hardship.

Kyleigh's Gift's mission is to provide infant wellness education and resources, as well as parental support for pregnancy and infant loss at Liberty Hospital.

The Kyleigh's Gift Diaper Drive began in 2015. This marks the 10th year of doing the diaper drive. Over 255,000 diapers have been donated since the diaper drive began. Their goal this year is to surpass the 300,000 mark. The diaper drive brings awareness of diaper needs in our community and helps babies and toddlers stay clean and healthy. Diapers from the drive are given to Liberty Hospital Birthing Center for families in need, as well as community organizations that help address diaper needs.

This is the fourth year that Baby Grace Place will benefit from Kyleigh's Gift Diaper Drive. Since 2021, over 13,000 diapers have been donated to WCC and WC Raytown as a result of the diaper drive.

Summer Lunch Program
May
25
to Aug 18

Summer Lunch Program

Every summer, once school lets out, we start taking sack lunches to three locations in Lee's Summit that are considered food insecure. Kids can come at a designated time each weekday to get a lunch they can take home, and they can also choose a book to keep.

This takes a lot of people and a lot of resources. Here are ways that you can help:

YOUR TIME

Lunch Prep: We prep lunches at the Mission Center five days per week. Spend one hour one or more days per week making sack lunches.

Delivery: After the lunches are ready, we load them up and take them to our three locations. Two or more people deliver to all three locations. Then, they return leftovers to the Mission Building, record how many lunches we served that day, and let the "shoppers" know what is needed for the next day. This takes approximately one hour per day.

YOUR RESOURCES

Summer Lunch makes a LOT of sandwiches every day! We can really use donations of:

-Creamy peanut butter

-Strawberry or grape jelly

-Individually packaged pretzels & chips

-Granola bars

-Protein bars

-Applesauce cups

-Fruit cups

-Gently used or new books for toddler - high school

-Monetary donations to be used for fresh fruit, meat for sandwiches, and bread

Please mark any donations as "SUMMER LUNCH" and bring them to the church office M-F 9-4 or on Sunday during services.

If you are interested in lunch prep or delivery, please contact Ann Williams.

Sign-up coming soon.

Dear Sponsors, Golfers, Volunteers and Adoption Resource Foundation Supporters,

I hope that your 2024 is off to a great start! I know I am looking forward to kicking this cold weather to the curb and pulling out the clubs again soon.

We are already putting our plans together for our Annual Golf Tournament that will take place on Monday, June 10th, at Lakewood Oaks Country Club. Last year was one of the best years we have ever had. We were able to raise over $50,000 and award seven awesome families with $5,000 grants to help them with their adoptions.

You were able to meet most of these families last year. We are excited to introduce our alumni families and this year’s families to you on June 10th. How exciting it is that you played a huge part in helping these children find their forever homes!

This year our board will be meeting at the end of March with all the families who have applied for the 2024 grants. We will be deciding which ones we will award additional grants to for their adoptions. You will also meet these amazing families at the event this year. You are making a huge difference in the lives of so many children. We can’t thank you enough for your years of support for this incredible foundation.

Our theme this year is Give the Gift, and we are hoping to Give the Gift of the family to more children who are out there waiting for their forever families. We look forward to seeing you at the event again on June 10th.

Again, thank you for your continued support!

ARF Committee:  Brian Conaty (chair), Rose Mary Coffman, Cortney Cooper, Aaron Israelite, Jake Wimmer, Billie McClain and Kristi Herschberger

Please use this link HERE to sign up to play in the Golf Tournament, be a Tournament Sponsor, or give a donation.

Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday

Join us on February 14th as we celebrate Ash Wednesday. We will be offering the following options:

7:30 AM - 9:00 AM: Drive-Up Ashes & Prayer + Communion

6:00 PM - 7:30 PM: Come & Go Ashes + Communion

  • Free cookies and hot cocoa will be available in the Coffee Bar during the Come & Go Ashes from 6:00-7:30 PM.

What is Ash Wednesday? It’s the first day of Lent, which is the forty-day time period leading up to Easter. For centuries, it’s been a special time for followers of Jesus to take care of some spiritual business that sometimes doesn’t get taken care of during the rest of the year.

Why ashes? Ashes are an ancient symbol to remind us of two things: First, our mortality (from dust you came and to dust you return). Knowing this reminds us to make the most of our days by living out the great commandment and great commission—Love God, love people, and share the Good News of Jesus in all we say and do.

Secondly, ashes remind us to repent. The idea is to use the days between Ash Wednesday and Easter to do some spiritual housekeeping--a spiritual spring cleaning. Just like with your home, you take time to clean all the dirty nooks and crannies, the closets where junk accumulates, and the spare room where stuff gets dumped. Spiritually speaking, we tend to collect habits, hurts, and hang-ups that cloud our lives, impede our relationships, smudge our minds, and distract our souls. We should do some clean-up work with God’s grace and guidance so that Easter can be a new, fresh, and clean beginning.
