Tornadoes created a tragic loss of life and devastation across the heartland this past week, and the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) will be sending Early Response Teams (ERT’s) into these areas to help with the cleanup and support of the victims for quite some time into the future. We still have teams working in Louisiana. At this time the best way that you can be helping is through your prayers and your financial support. If you would like to assist with donations please memo your donations “UMCOR Disaster Relief.” Another tangible way that you can help is to take the next Early Response Team training that the Missouri Conference will be offering in February. In order to be able to immediately go into a disaster sight, you must be part of a certified team trained in what to do, how to stay safe and pass a background check. The next opportunity for training will be February 4-5 and 11-12. All four sessions are required for certification.
